Current Projects We Support

Welcome to our Current Projects page! Here you’ll find the initiatives the Missouri State Parks Foundation is actively supporting in partnership with organizations across the state and with the citizens of Missouri. Each project represents a shared commitment to preserving our natural landscapes, enhancing recreational opportunities, protecting historic sites, and ensuring that our parks remain treasures for generations to come. We invite you to explore these efforts and see the impact we are making—together.

Rock Island Trail State Park

Spanning the former Rock Island Railroad corridor, Rock Island Trail State Park features 47.5 miles of developed trail from Pleasant Hill to Windsor, with another 144 miles awaiting development. Designated Missouri’s 93rd State Park in June 2023, the trail will connect 23 communities and extend the legacy of the Katy Trail with riverside views and historic tunnels. The Missouri State Parks Foundation, working with more than 20 partners, is helping raise nearly $16 million to open the full corridor—already securing over $9 million in land, grants, and donations. Together, we’re building the next great chapter in Missouri State Parks.

Route 66 State Park

Route 66 Meramec River Bridge Restoration
The historic Meramec River Bridge at Route 66 State Park is a vital missing link, reconnecting trails, rivers, parks, and nearby communities. By restoring this iconic structure, we honor its past while creating new opportunities for recreation and discovery. In partnership with Missouri State Parks and Great Rivers Greenway, the Foundation is raising funds to restore the bridge, reconnect the park’s two halves, and celebrate the heritage of America’s “Mother Road.”

Other State Parks

The Missouri State Parks Foundation works to make Missouri Parks stronger. Through partnerships with various organizations around the state, we have been able to assist the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in funding parks projects throughout the state.
